Industry Leaders to Explore Emerging Digital Risks and AI Innovations

Princeton, NJ – ISMG has announced its upcoming 2024 Financial Services Cybersecurity Summit, slated for November 7, 2024, in New York City. This premier event will convene cybersecurity experts and financial industry leaders to tackle the evolving challenges in the digital security landscape.

At a time when financial institutions face increasingly sophisticated cyberthreats, the summit aims to provide a comprehensive exploration of emerging risks and innovative defense strategies. Summit sessions will cover critical areas such as safeguarding digital identities, countering advanced payment fraud schemes and harnessing the power of interdisciplinary risk management.

The average cost of a data breach for the financial sector rose up to $6.08 million, according to IBM’s Cost of a Data Breach Report 2024. “The sector is at a critical juncture,” said Jennifer Eisenhofer, vice president of events at ISMG. “To address this alarming trend, this summit aims to break down silos, equip professionals with groundbreaking insights and promote a more holistic view of cybersecurity.”

A key focus of the summit will be the session on “Protecting Digital Identity: Combatting Account Takeovers in Financial Services.” In this session, Anthony Scarola, senior vice president and director of IT governance, risk and compliance at Apple Bank, and Carlos Suarez, deputy information security officer at Helaba, will discuss the mechanics of account takeovers and their broader implications for the financial sector. They will explore the latest trends in identity-based attacks and share strategies for implementing robust identity and access management frameworks.

Aaron Simpson, partner at Hunton & Williams; Seth Rose, supervisory special agent group 06 at the U.S. Department of the Treasury Cyber Investigations Unit; and Michael Woodson, information security and privacy director at Sonesta Hotels, and a CyberEdBoard member, will shine a spotlight on the rapidly evolving landscape of financial cybercrime. The session “New Age of Payment Fraud: Hackers vs. Heroes” will examine emerging threats such as synthetic identity fraud and sophisticated social engineering attacks targeting payment systems.

The “Financial Fortification: The Power of Interdisciplinary Risk Management” session will underscore the critical synergies between various risk functions within financial services organizations. Vlad Brodsky, senior vice president and chief information security officer at OTC Markets Group and a CyberEdBoard member, and Ali Khan, CISO at Better.com, will address the importance of establishing a common language across different risk domains and explore how fostering interdisciplinary communication is crucial for timely and effective threat response.

The summit will also feature an innovative, hands-on workshop simulating real-world cyber crisis scenarios. This interactive session will allow participants to apply theoretical knowledge in a practical setting, enhancing their ability to respond effectively to emerging threats. Attendees will work through complex scenarios, testing their decision-making skills and refining their incident response strategies.

Participants will have the opportunity to engage with a diverse array of industry leaders, including CISOs, IT executives and cybersecurity experts from prominent financial institutions. The event will facilitate knowledge sharing and networking, enabling attendees to gain valuable insights from peers and thought leaders.

The summit will conclude with a forward-looking session, exploring how the cybersecurity landscape in financial services is likely to evolve in the coming years. Industry leaders will share their visions for the future of cybersecurity and offer insights into how institutions can prepare for upcoming challenges. This session will provide attendees with valuable perspectives to inform their long-term security strategies.
